What is an app promo video?

An app promo video is a short marketing video that shows what your mobile app does and why people should download it. It runs on your website, in your Google Play listing, in social feeds and in app install ads. Most app promo videos are 15 to 60 seconds long, vertical for phones, and designed to work with the sound off.

Tweenova is an app promo video maker that builds that video from the screenshots you already have. Upload your real app screens and icon, write a few sentences about the app, and Tweenova storyboards three directions, animates your screens with camera moves and kinetic type, and cuts everything to an original soundtrack. You get a 1080×1920 vertical video and a 1920×1080 landscape version from the same brief.

No screen recording, no After Effects and no stock footage of phones. Just your app, in motion.

How to make an app promo video

Each step usually takes a few minutes. You approve the direction before anything is animated.

  1. 1

    Describe your app

What it does, who it is for, the three things people should remember, and where to download it.

  2. 2

    Upload app screenshots

Your onboarding, the main screen, the key feature and a result screen, plus your app icon. Nothing is invented.

  3. 3

    Choose a storyboard

Three directions with a rendered key frame each. Pick the one that fits your app and audience.

  4. 4

    Approve and download

Revise in plain words, then download vertical and landscape MP4s, a cover image and a short description.

Turn app screenshots into a promo video

Your App Store and Google Play screenshots already tell your app’s story. Tweenova turns those screenshots into a promo video by moving the camera across them, pushing in on the button or result that matters, layering type over them on the beat and transitioning between screens the way a motion designer would.

Because every frame comes from your own screens, the video shows exactly what people will see after they install. That matters for app marketing: a promo that shows features the app does not have drives uninstalls and one-star reviews.

Vertical app promo videos for Reels, TikTok and Shorts

Most app installs from social video happen on phones, in vertical feeds. Tweenova lays out a dedicated 9:16 version at 1080×1920 for Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Snapchat, with text placed inside the safe area so platform buttons do not cover it. It is a real vertical layout, not a crop of the landscape cut.

Pair it with the 16:9 version for your website hero, YouTube channel and Google Play store listing, so one brief covers your whole app launch.

Mobile app promo videos that work on mute

Store pages and social feeds autoplay video without sound, so an app promo video has to tell its story on screen. Tweenova storyboards around short, readable lines of kinetic typography that stay up long enough to read, with captions available if you add voice-over.

When the sound is on, an original, license-free soundtrack with cuts timed to the beat makes the video feel energetic and finished. You can use it in paid app install campaigns without licensing a track.

An app trailer in the style that fits your app

Choose a starting style in the brief: Playful for consumer and lifestyle apps, Clean SaaS for productivity and finance apps, Bold kinetic type for launch teasers, or Cinematic dark for AI and premium apps. Link a reference app trailer you like and Tweenova will use it as a guide for pacing and look.

Need changes? Write them in plain words, for example “hold the onboarding screen longer at 0:08” or “use our brand green for the headline”. Every video includes three revision rounds.

Where to use your app promo video

Apple App Store previewSee belowApple has its own app preview rules, including 15–30 seconds and footage captured from the app.

Can I upload it as an App Store preview video?

Be careful here. Apple’s app preview guidelines ask for footage captured on the device that shows only content inside the app, recommend the native UI resolution rather than zooming in, and prefer simple transitions like dissolves and fades. A motion-designed app promo video with kinetic type and 2.5D camera moves is built for marketing channels, and it may not pass App Review as a preview.

Use your Tweenova app promo video on Google Play, your website, social media and ads. For the App Store preview slot, record the app on device and follow Apple’s specs. Our App Store preview video specs guide lists the accepted resolutions, the 15–30 second length and the audio requirements.

Tips for a better app promo video

The best app promo videos are short, specific and honest. Use these tips when you write your brief.

  • Show the app within the first three seconds; Google recommends the first ten at the latest.
  • Pick four or five screens that tell a story: problem, action, result, reward.
  • Use one short line of text per screen; viewers read it in one or two beats.
  • Avoid prices and dates on screen so the video stays accurate longer.
  • End on the download call to action and your app icon.
  • Refresh the promo whenever your UI changes: upload new screenshots and make a new version.
